Our founder spent years in the United States Navy. In that environment, everything that doesn't earn its place gets cut. You learn fast what works and what's just noise.
Sailors have a term for something built to withstand real-world use without complication: sailor proof. It goes back further than most people realize. Historically, sailors tested the strength of their rum ration by seeing if it could ignite gunpowder. If it burned, it was "proof." If it didn't, they'd been shorted.
